Over the past eight years, I have photographed over 150 young people; including current and former students. They are young, hopeful, innocent, driven, smart, ambitious, creative, and intuitive.
Their photographs and quotations are a testament that they are more than just a statistic or number. They have substance, value, and agency.

“Breaking Stereotypes: Portraits in Black and White” is my attempt to give control back to the individual. In the end, young people, no matter their background, social class, race, or gender, want the same thing: success, happiness, a good job, and the power to control their lives and identity. This project is an attempt to invigorate that power in young African Americans.
